Eddie Beard had a super weekend as he passed the 1,000-run mark on Saturday and then scored an unbeaten century of 104 on Sunday.

In the latter match, Newfield Castletown had batted well first off with Jack Newbery scoring 71 and Jonathan Wells 45 in their total of 220.

Eddie Beard and Chris Hawke (75 not out) took full advantage of the fast outfield for the Callin Wild Development XI and got the runs in the 37th over, winning the Premiership encounter by seven wickets.

This weekend the Development XI take on Shimmin Wilson Peel and St John’s.

This is a much more difficult game for the young players and they will need to dig deep to beat a well-fancied Peel side.

They will hope to have George Burrows back in the side after his time playing in Derbyshire and Charlie Beard may also be fit enough to return to action.

Some of the PSJ side will have been playing in their second team’s Blincoe Cup game on Saturday and they may be jaded but they should still have enough left in the tank to win.

Newfield Castletown are the Saints’ opponents in that Blincoe tie.

This should be a competitive affair as Castletown now have a couple of players in form and PSJ’s second team usually has a number of players who can be competitive in leagues higher than they normally play.

Ramsey Crookall Finch Hill welcome CTH Insurance Ramsey to their Ballafletcher ground.

Both teams have had a rough time of it so far this Premiership season and neither are yet to pick up a win and what a party it should be for them.

Ramsey have struggled to put the same 11 players out each week and this lack of stability may cause them problems.

Previously, I mentioned that George Burrows should be back playing, and he will add some extra attacking strength to the Finches’ batting line up.

l The Junior Leagues continue apace with the youngsters often playing throughout the week.

Well done to them and the dedicated parents who ferry them around the island and support them over many hours.

Some big scores have been set over the past couple of weeks.

Castletown under-13s beat Ramsey after the latter scored 146 thanks to knocks of 66 and 51 from Luke Ward and Michael Webber.

However, Nathan Williams scored a century and Castletown won by two wickets.

Town’s u11 team beat Ramsey again when Cameron Roome scored his maiden century (104 not out).

Ramsey u11s responded the following week with Tom Ward scoring a maiden century (102 not out), when they beat Finch Hill.

Notably, another young Barnett batter, Lucy, made her mark in the game with a maiden 52 not out for Finch Hill.

The big scores kept coming last week when a massive 384 runs were scored in the 40 overs between Finch Hill and Ramsey (Christian Webster 83, Fraser Clarke 56, Luke Ward 97).

Although this time of year can be easier for batsmen, the young bowlers have also played a part.

Cronkbourne u11 Strikers’ Harry Deering took five wickets for eight as they reduced Castletown to 31 all out.

Crosby’s Henry Dawson took three for 19 but two of the Sixers bowlers, Ryder Spencer and James Plumley, claimed three wickets apiece as they beat Crosby.
