George Burrows continued his superb form with the bat on Sunday as he hit 152 runs in the Callin Wild Development XI’s win over Shimmin Wilson Peel and St John’s (PSJ).

The Development XI smashed 302 from their 40 overs against a strong PSJ side at Mullen-e-Cloie.

Burrows made his eighth century of the season in 108 balls and his score included 18 fours and two sixes.

The 19-year-old was ably backed up by his team-mates, who made scores in the 20s.

The PSJ bowlers suffered a difficult afternoon, but Connor Gilbert finished with figures of 3 for 45 from his six overs.

PSJ couldn’t take the game to the opposition as first out was dangerman Ollie Webster for the paltry sum of three runs.

Jacob Butler and Ed Walker continued to heap misery upon the PSJ batsmen and they faced an early defeat with the score 32 for 4.

Shahid Rafique briefly rallied PSJ with a score of 40, but Corbin Liebenberg was then introduced and he took three important wickets for only 18 runs.

The Clarke brothers wrapped up the tail with PSJ all out for 104 meaning the Development XI had won by 198 runs.

Shimmin Wilson Peel and St John’s (PSJ) play their tenants Valkyres at their Mullen-e-Cloie ground at midday on Saturday.

PSJ have won all the games between the two clubs this season with Valkyres not really been able to build any pressure upon the early batsmen in order to create mistakes.

Valkyres may be lacking a bit of firepower this weekend in the bowling department, which will complicate things further.

However, they will take some solace from the early dismissal of Webster when he was playing the Development XI. As a result his average took a bit of a knock- it is now only 79.64!

Ramsey Crookall Finch Hill play host to the Callin Wild Development XI on Sunday at Ballafletcher.

One assumes that George Burrows will skipper Finch Hill, so the Development XI will need some batting firepower to replace him.

The Development XI bowled well last time out, but Finch Hill have some decent young batsmen in addition to Burrows although they may need to develop more patience and adapt to the circumstances of the game in order to score runs regularly.

Hannan Law Crosby welcome Baker Tilly Isle of Man Cronkbourne to the Memorial Playing Fields on Saturday at 11am.

The result of this match may depend upon how Cronkbourne approach the game. The Tromode outfit may play a selection of their youngsters as they did last weekend against Ramsey.

This may give Crosby an opportunity to regain some confidence as the Marown side has not been able to get going this season.

This match may help, but Cronkbourne have Corbin Liebenberg in grand form.

Batsmen Jack Gerard and Harry McAleer have had some good knocks recently, so Crosby will need to be on their guard.

CTH Insurance Ramsey make the long trek south to play Newfield Castletown at King William’s College on Saturday. Ramsey will be buoyed by their recent win over Cronkbourne. The northerners will hope that they can manage to get the same team out as they batted and bowled well in that game.

James Harrison took four wickets last weekend, so he will be keen to test his talents against another set of batsmen. It will be important that Castletown’s top order put some runs on the board to give the team confidence.

Tom Kennaugh and Jaco Jansen have batted consistently and Town will hope that Sam Callister follows up with another good innings to back up his highest score of the season, 60, from last week.

Castletown should have the edge over Ramsey in this one.
