The big cup final in Manx cricket takes place this Sunday at Tromode from 1pm.

Baker Tilly Isle of Man Cronkbourne will be preparing the teas for the visit of Shimmin Wilson Peel and St John’s (PSJ).

Cronkbourne earned their place in the final by way of a rain-affected game against Crosby.

The Tromode side had built a decisive lead of 47 runs in the first innings, which may have been tricky for their opponents to overcome but the rain put paid to any chance of a comeback.

Nathan Knights has been batting well recently including a good knock for the Development XI on Sunday.

His style will suit the furious pace of the first 10 overs.

This was the case when Knights scored 59 from 38 balls in the semi-final.

Adam McAuley has also put some runs on the board and Matthew Ansell has been adding batting to his cricket CV this year also.

Cronkbourne’s bowling department will no doubt include Ben Johnston and Corbin Liebenberg. Johnston returned with figures of 3 for 12 from last weekend’s league game against Crosby and a good performance could put Cronkbourne in the driving seat.

Peel and St John’s may field a much-changed team this weekend with several players on a pre-booked trip to watch the Ashes at Headingley.

The skipper, Ollie Webster, is among their number so his team-mates must take the opportunity to win the game for PSJ.

Juan Bellando battled well last season against Valkyres, and Alex Williamson is due another big score this campaign.

Brendan Bennett bowled a good long spell on Saturday and Kieran Cawte earned his slip cordon of five players.

However, I am sure that they will face a batting line-up that will surely perform better than their opposition of last weekend.

It is important that they try and match the first batting score of Cronkbourne, which could produce a tight second section to the game.

l There are no matches in the Manx Premier League this weekend, so Division One takes centre stage.

Newfield Castletown play host to Baker Tilly Isle of Man Cronkbourne down at King William’s College from 1pm on Saturday.

Town have been doing well of late and they are currently top of Division One with four wins from four. They have been putting runs from multiple batsmen. Sam Callister, Dan Edwards, Jaco Jansen, and Dan Laughlin are contributors of note recently.

Their left-arm bowlers can produce the goods and they have a couple of excellent young players by way of Nathan Williams and Dollin Jansen. Cronkbourne will have another busy weekend but they will hope to field strong sides for both occasions.

Finally, Hannan Law Crosby will play CTH Insurance Ramsey at the Memorial Playing Fields on Saturday.

The start time may be affected by the races. Crosby have won two of their four matches at the weekend, but they have been enjoying themselves in the midweek T20 league, the Cain Championship.

They are currently top in that league with five wins from six games. Their young wicketkeeper, Carl Hartmann, tops the club’s batting averages.

Young bowlers Jacob Butler, Ed Walker and Toby Poole-Wilson occupy the club’s top three places in the bowling averages. Butler has bowled particularly well in recent games and has demolished opposing teams with ease.

Crosby will go into the game confident of victory because Ramsey have not had the best of seasons.

However, I am sure that they will point out that they are not bottom of the league at this stage.

They have won a match against Cronkbourne, which brought much cheer, most probably in the Trafalgar Hotel.
