There are five games being played over two days in cricket’s Premiership this weekend, with both Castletown and Cronkbourne facing ’double headers’.
Town start their busy weekend by welcoming Shimmin Wilson Peel and St John’s to their KWC ground on Saturday.
The Newfield-sponsored hosts can rely on some good batting early doors with both Jonathan Wells and Dan Laughlin in good form.
Jack Newbery hasn’t got going just yet, but I am sure that it won’t be long before he starts making runs.
PSJ will hope to field a stronger side than they did on Sunday, and if they play well, they will expect to come out victorious.
Baker Tilly Isle of Man Cronkbourne face Ramsey Crookall Finch Hill at Tromode on Saturday.
Finch Hill have Tom Burrows back, who will bolster their bowling attack and if the Beard brothers are batting then Cronkbourne will have their work cut out.
Perhaps Christian Webster will add some runs to his excellent 152 that he scored in the under-13s on Tuesday?
I would expect Cronkbourne to play their best team and with established players such as Adam McAuley in good form, they will perhaps have too much in hand on this occasion for the Finches.
CTH Insurance Ramsey greet Hannan Law Crosby to their ground at the Grammar School.
Crosby have won all four of their games this season and are riding high at the top of the weekend league.
Ramsey have some good young players, such as the Ward brothers and their bowling attack shared out the wickets versus Castletown last time out.
However, Crosby have both batsmen and bowlers in good form, especially Jacob Butler, and Ramsey will have to play well to win.
Castletown face another difficult game when they visit Baker Tilly Isle of Man Cronkbourne on Sunday.
That will be a tough couple of days for the boys from down south. They will have to play well as a team to beat Cronkbourne, but I will be disappointed if their maestro, Mark Williams, does not take the fight to the 2017 weekend league winners.
Finally, Valkyres take on the Development XI on Sunday at KWC.
Valkyres have played the big teams over the last two weekends and they did well when they beat Peel and St John’s.
They may think that their difficult games are now behind them, but they could get a surprise from this young side.
The Development XI is full of good players and they have played well for their own clubs as well as the cricket association team. This may be the best game of the weekend.
