The first heavyweight clash of the new Premiership season takes place this weekend when Peel & St John’s (PSJ) meet Cronkbourne at Mullen-e-Cloie on Saturday.
Shimmin Wilson PSJ have made a good start to the campaign with two wins from their first two games.
Their batsmen have done quite well with Ollie Webster and Pete Lewis both having notable knocks.
Their bowlers approach the game with good figures (for bowling), and they will be confident going into the game.
Cronkbourne had a bit of setback when they lost to the Development XI and they will be keen to bounce back.
Corbin Liebenberg has made a particularly good start to the season.
He bowls with pace and he did well with the bat on Sunday, scoring 43.
Valkyres travel to Crosby on Saturday and they will hope to do better than they did during the summer of 2018 when the Crosby batsmen feasted well on their bowling.
The Marown side seemed to have put the hex on the Valkyres boys last year, so it is important that batsmen such as Muhammad Salman and Wasim Khan can add to their good starts at the crease.
Ramasubbareddy Bojiireddy has worked hard on his game over the winter and will hopefully knock the ball around the Memorial Playing Fields. It could be an interesting game.
Newfield Castletown make the long trek north to sunny CTH Insurance Ramsey.
Neither side has got going yet really but Will Ward has had a couple of good knocks with the bat and he won’t be easy to get out. (I apologise if you are out for a low score now, Will!)
Tom Moffatt bowled well against Valkyres last weekend and could have got a couple of more wickets on a ’going’ day.
The Jansen boys seemed to have settled in at new club Castletown.
Jaco scored 75 with the bat and son Dollin took three wickets when they played Finch Hill.
I think that Town will take the honours from this game.
Sunday sees the Callin Wild Development XI take on Ramsey Crookall Finch Hill at King William’s College.
The development side got a reward for their hard work over the winter when they scored their first victory of the season last time out.
They face another team, which prides itself on the number of young players within the team this weekend.
The Finches’ Eddie Beard’s excellent 165 not out versus Castletown and the consistency of Sam Barnett will give the opposition a lot to think about.
The Finch Hill batsmen were backed up by some good team bowling, especially Fraser Clarke’s four for 27.
However, the Development team will have their tails up so we should see another interesting game.
Castletown and Cronkbourne have a busy weekend as they are playing their rearranged Tinker Cup game on Sunday. This means there will be another game to enjoy down at King William’s College.
Hopefully, both sides will be able to get their big players out for both games.
