Will Draper won the Isle of Man Sprint Triathlon title for the second year in succession on Saturday morning.
The event, sponsored by Microgaming, was based at Ramsey pool where former island swimmer Chris Hewson produced the fastest time for the 30-length opening leg in a time of 10min 12sec.
Draper, a full 47 seconds slower in the water, soon made up time on the cycle and took the lead midway round the 20km cycle.
But he was being steadily reeled in himself by professional cyclist Peter Kennaugh no-less.
The latter went into the red to catch Draper entering the second transition, but from thereon in it was all about Draper who put in a final 5km run time of 17 minutes precisely to cross the finish line a full 2m 29s in front of Kennaugh, who did extremely well to finish a similar margin clear of former winner Andy Nash in third.
Hewson regained fourth place on the run from leading veteran Juan Kinley, who comfortably beat Kristan King for the over-40s title.
Island Games team member Lynsey Elliott produced a typically strong performance to finish 12th overall in a total field of 60 to beat Carrie Wernham in the women’s race by more than five minutes.
Sunday’s team event was won by a margin of 44 seconds by Christine Johnson, Gianni Epifani and Nash from Kennaugh, Moto GP star Cal Crutchlow and solo winner Draper.
