A number of local athletes contested the England 10km race walking championships at Warwick University in Coventry on Sunday.

The women’s race incorporated the all-England championship and was won by Bethan Davies of Cardiff in 46min 07sec.

Erika Kelly of Northern AC placed fifth (second in the England champs) with a time of 52m 17s. Rebecca Greatbatch (Manx Harriers) was eighth (fourth England champs) in 63.38 and Jayne Farquhar (Manx Harriers) ninth (fifth England champs) in 63.50.

Manx Harriers won the Athletics Association of England team award with fifth-placed (second junior) Tom Partington in 47.32, Gianni Epifani - in his off-island walks debut - sixth in 48.41 and Dale Farquhar ninth in 56.02 out of a field of more than 30 competitors.

The race was won by Tom Bosworth of Tonbridge in 40m 20s, who finished sixth in the Rio Olympics.

Alice Bellando of Manx Harriers (under 17) placed third in the women’s 5km open in 29.11.

That race was won by former Olympic and Commonwealth Games walker Lisa Kelher of Wolverhampton in 27.17.
