Tom Knight made the long trip to Hungary worthwhile when he won the European Cup class of the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro event on Saturday.

Forty-eight hours before his 17th birthday, the Andreas teenager finished third in the opening race but then went all-out to win the second and take the overall victory.

For the first time in its history, the indoor enduro world championship headed to Budapest, where the event took place in the Papp Laszlo Arena.

Riding for Gas Gas UK, Knight rode steadily to finish third in race one behind series leader Robert Scharl of Germany and Thomas Hostinsky of Slovakia.

Upping his pace in race two, Tom led home Paul Bury of France and Hostinsky.

Overall, Scharl continues to lead the Euro standings by 10 points from the young Manxman, with Hostinskyanother two points down in third.

Will Hoare, who was part of the British contingent that made the 1,400-mile round trip to Budapest with Knight, won the World Junior category title after securing an impressive ninth victory of the campaign.

Tom Knight wishes to thank Daniel Oates for driving him all the way out to Budapest (via Yorkshire, Derbyshire, France, Belgium and Austria) and back.

Having taken four days on the outward journey, they made it back to the island in less than 48 hours, in time for Tom to celebrate his 17th birthday with his family on Monday evening!

The final round in Bilbao, Spain is now on April 6.
