The PwC Men’s and Women’s leagues reach their halfway stage this weekend, with plenty still to play for leading into the half-season break.
Three interesting fixtures are to be found in the PwC Women’s Premier League. After a glut of big results, Vikings take on Bacchas who have traditionally put up a good fight against other teams, but can often struggle against the Manx All-Blacks.
Vikings have yet to concede a goal this season, but Bacchas have been scoring plenty so could be the team to break this record.
Valkyrs face Castletown who seem to be improving as the season progresses but probably have a little way to go to compete with a Valkyrs squad on a winning streak.
Ramsey will play bottom-placed team Harlequins as clear favourites, but having scored against both Castletown and Valkyrs, could spring a surprise if they can find the net.
The PwC Men’s Premier League sees a Bacchas club derby which is only likely to go one way, while an easy win is on the cards for Ramsey against a Vikings B team that has yet to score a goal this season.
No such challenges for Vikings’ third team, who currently lead the top goal scorers in PwC Division One, as they face a Harlequins team with an almost identical record during the season to date. Likely to be a competitive fixture, Vikings may carry a slight edge with a larger squad to draw from.
Saracens have only conceded a couple of goals this year, but this is likely to change during a top-of-the-table clash against a Castletown side averaging six goals a match. A win for Castletown is expected, but by no means a certainty.
Ramsey B will expect to maintain their 100 per cent record and go three points clear against Castletown B, while Saracens will expect a close match against Harlequins B and hope to exploit any defensive weaknesses.
In PwC Women’s Division One, Bacchas Colts will expect to keep their full house of wins against Saracens, while Vikings B will have enough across-the-board strength to overcome Castletown B.
Ramsey B and Harlequins B will offer both teams the chance for points. The outcome of this match will be determined by availability at Harlequins, while a Valkyrs club derby - which could be fairly close - rounds out the fixtures.
Valkyrs and Harlequins are leading the PwC Under-16s League, although the former plays Saracens who could bring themselves into play.
Vikings haven’t yet won a game in the Under-16s but have a surprisingly good defensive record for a bottom team. Despite losing three games, they have only conceded six goals and have every chance of a win before long.
