Manx Hockey Association is hoping to conclude its 2019-20 campaign ahead of the start of the 2020-21 mixed campaign in September.

After social distancing guidelines were removed last week, a statement released by the MHA board said: ’We believe the most appropriate solution to conclude the outstanding 2019-2020 men’s/women’s/Under-16 Rossborough Insurance leagues, is for the remaining matches to be played immediately prior to the start of the 2020-2021 season.

’When hockey is allowed to re-commence, likely in the next few weeks, time will be factored in for some training sessions before the actual matches go ahead.

’The Rossborough Insurance under-13s boys’ end-of-season tournament will also be played prior to the start of the 2020-21 junior season.

’However, the men’s and women’s cup and plate competition will not be played for the 2019-20 season.

’If the MHA are not able to start hockey again by August, the board will revisit the above and make a further decision on the conclusion of the 2019-20 season.’

In a separate statement on its website, England Hockey revealed its insurers, Howden’s, was happy that the sport could now resume in the island.

Most of the leagues mentioned have a couple of games left to play and discussions are now being held within individual clubs about how and when they will return to training.
