Four Rushen players make it into the latest Team of the Week after the Spaniards put an end to defending top-flight champions St Mary’s 100 per cent start to the season.

Liam Cowin’s charges beat his former club 2-0 at Croit Lowey to continue their own unbeaten start to the Canada Life Premier League campaign.

Taking the Man of the Match honours in Port Erin was home goalkeeper Dean Kearns who produced several top-draw saves to keep the Douglas side at bay.

The Isle of Man FA cap edges out Laxey keeper Rob Slinger for a place in the latest hypothetical XI after he also picked up the MotM honours in the Miners’ 1-1 draw at Peel.

Kearns is joined in the TotW by club-mates Alex Maitland, Alex Guy and Ryan Crawley.

Guy was an effective presence in the Spaniards’ midfield, while Crawley capped a tireless performance in attack by teeing up United’s second goal in the victory.

Maitland lines up in his first TotW of the season after helping Rushen keep a second clean sheet of the term, with a typically dominant and assured showing in the heart of the United backline.

Joining Maitland in the TotW’s three-man defence are Laxey’s Dave Corlett and St George’s stalwart Sean Quaye.

Corlett earned his side a first point at Peel in six years with a stoppage-time equaliser. The centre-back also helped keep the westerners at bay when his side were temporarily reduced to nine men, when the Miners had two players simultaneously sin binned midway through the second half.

Quaye was in form as St George’s beat struggling Douglas Royal 9-0 at Ballafletcher, adding to a clean sheet with a goal.

Corinthians were the day’s highest scorers, netting nine against bottom side Marown.

Ste Whitley and Luke Murray both scored hat-tricks in that match, the former within the space of 10 first-half minutes. The pair slot into the TotW alongside midfielder Fraser Vaughan who also impressed as the Whites equalled their biggest winning margin of the season so far.

Former Corinthians winger Dan Simpson also earns a place in the side after he did his best to enliven a subdued Peel performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Laxey.

Completing this week’s line-up is the ever-green Chris Bass Jr who was Man of the Match as Geordies maintained their 100 per cent start of the campaign against Douglas Royal.

Taking the Referee of the Week honours is Willie Cowley who impressed with the whistle during that game at Ballafletcher.
