The Isle of Man FA is proposing to start the new football season on Saturday, August 15.

In a shock move, it is also planning to play the outstanding semi-finals and finals of both last season’s FA and Woods Cups two weeks ahead of the new campaign beginning in mid-August.

Both plans, which were revealed in an email sent to club secretaries and council members last week, have to be ratified by the English FA. It said: ’With the restrictions on social distancing and gatherings now totally relaxed in the island, and players now able to fully participate in training, the Isle of Man Football Association is in the process of compiling the fixtures for the 2020-2021 season.

’The IoMFA is seeking approval from The FA to commence the new league season on Saturday, August 15 due to the cancellation of the Manx Grand Prix.’

’In its application to The FA, the competitions management committee is also looking to play the 2019-20 ECAP FA Cup and GH Corlett Woods Cup semi-finals and finals before the start of the new season.’

The email went on to add that clubs could begin playing pre-season friendlies from July 7.

In line with English FA guidelines, the 2019-20 campaign was abandoned at the end of March with the results in all junior and senior competitions declared null and void.
