Braddan Football Club are appealing for players to join the club ahead of the new season after poor numbers at pre-season training left its place in the league in doubt.
The Swans finished 11th in the Premier League last season, finishing three points above the relegation zone following promotion the campaign before.
First-team manager Will Smith and assistant Mick Hegarty stepped down from their roles at the end of last campaign and despite bringing in former Pulrose coach Paul Guiver to help with pre-season training numbers have been in single figures.
Some of the club’s committee and veteran players have taken to social media to encourage existing and new players to turn up to training at Victoria Road on Monday evening at 6.30pm.
Club chairman David Goldsmith spoke to the Isle of Man Examiner on Friday, saying: ’Contrary to recent speculation, Braddan Football Club is not in danger of folding.
’Due to poor attendance at training and no manager currently in place, the club is having to consider withdrawing its sides from the league in 2018-19.
’I can categorically state that Braddan will not be folding, we are looking to recruit senior players and already have a thriving junior section and look forward to its continued development under Will Smith and Craig Hardie and coaches.
In a statement released on Friday, the Swans committee said: ’Braddan Football Club is a proud club with a great tradition in Manx football. In spite of our best efforts the club has been unable to recruit a manager to replace Will Smith and Michael Hegarty who stood down at the end of last season.
’Numbers at training have been disappointing, some players are considering their future elsewhere and the club is having to consider withdrawing its sides from the league for next season.
’The club is very grateful to Paul Healey for his recent post on social media and impassioned plea to the football community to help the club at this difficult time. We are also grateful to those that responded positively to Paul’s post.
’The club would love to hear from persons interested in team management, preferably a qualified coach and someone with Premier League experience, but all interest would be welcomed.
’We appeal to the football community to help us with player recruitment to make it possible to fulfil our league commitments next season.
’We are looking for senior age players, 16 plus, to bolster our squads and the club is committed to offering free subs for at least one year for 16 to 18 year olds.
’Training is on Monday and Wednesday evenings under Paul Guiver, 6.15pm for 6.30 start at our Victoria Road ground; the club is very grateful to Paul for agreeing to continue to take the sessions.’
