Braddan completed a second division treble with a hard-fought win over Onchan in the Paul Henry Gold Cup final at the Bowl on Sunday afternoon.

Having already clinched the JCK Division Two title plus the GH Corlett Woods Cup, the Swans were favourites to end their season in style.

However, Onchan fancied their chances of spoiling the party, especially after inflicting a rare defeat on the Victoria Road side less than two weeks ago when goals from Josh Brockbank and Kraig Marsh earned them an impressive 2-0 win.

After an even but scrappy start to the game, it was Onchan who struck first when Joe Rees fired home from the penalty spot after a Braddan defender was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.

However, the Nivison Stadium outfit were unable to hold onto their lead until half-time as Braddan skipper Joey Andrews dragged his side level with a fine bullet header.

After the break tempers threatened to boil over as tackles flew in and Onchan were left incensed when they felt their opponents should have been reduced to 10 men following one such incident.

It was Braddan who found the breakthrough next as they completed the turnaround when Conor Dempsey’s quickly-taken free-kick was nodded down by Stuart Pacey to Rob Kermode who swept the ball home from close range.

Will Smith’s charges made sure of victory just a few minutes later when Pacey latched onto a through ball and drilled a fine shot past the keeper from a tight angle and in off the post to seal a 3-1 victory and clinch the silverware.
