There’s a mouth-watering clash in the quarter-finals of the Ascot Hotel Junior Cup as favourites DHSOB take on defending champions Rushen United.
The contest at Blackberry Lane sees newly-crowned Canada Life Combination One champions DHSOB welcome the side who romped to glory in last year’s competition, the Spaniards having thumped rivals Peel 4-0 in the 2016 final. The league meetings between the two sides this year have both been close, with Old Boys edging a 2-1 victory at home while Rushen won an eight-goal thriller at Croit Lowey.
All this points to an entertaining and intriguing game which could well go either way this Saturday.
There’s another potentially close game on the cards at Glencrutchery Road where a resurgent St George’s host rivals St Mary’s. Geordies have enjoyed a progressive season in combi football and, with their first team chasing an historic third Grand Slam, their second string will be hoping to add some glory of their own.
Elsewhere in the quarters, Laxey are favourites to book their place in the semis as the Combi One runner-ups travel to Colby, but the Moonlighters certainly shouldn’t be underestimated as they have already beaten the likes of Rushen and St Mary’s this season.
Foxdale will aiming to spring an upset when they travel to St John’s in a match which has the potential to go all the way, although the Saints will undoubtedly start as favourites at Mullen-e-Cloie.
