There’s a big match at the top of the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday afternoon as holders St George’s travel to Corinthians.

The pair are among the pack that sit just behind leaders Peel and St Mary’s. Both have games in hand on their title rivals, but will know defeat this weekend will be a big blow to their respective hopes of challenging for the divisional silverware.

Geordies currently trail pacesetters Peel by 12 points but with three games in hand on the westerners. The Whites are one point worse off but having played a game more.

The momentum, however, might just be with Danny McMahon’s hosts for this one having dispatched St John’s 7-1 in the FPI FA Cup on Saturday. Geordies too grabbed a win last time out, but it was only a slender 1-0 victory over a Castletown team that sit only three points off the foot of the league.

The pair drew September’s feisty reverse fixture 3-3, but arguably a point apiece this time out would be little use to either.

Peel will be looking to keep the pressure on at the top when they host western neighbours St John’s.

The Johnners will want to put the aforementioned defeat by Corinthians behind them quickly, but will do well to knock the Railway Cup winners out of their stride.

St Mary’s should keep up the pressure on Steve Falconer’s men with a win over a Castletown side that has only scored twice in its last five games.

Laxey will be hoping to take the momentum garnered from their FA Cup win over Youthie will aid them in their six-pointer with Douglas Royal at the foot of the standings.

Royal also claimed a good cup win away at Ramsey, suggesting this one could go either way.

Marown slipped to the foot of the league on goal-difference on Saturday after last week’s defeat by Peel.

They will hope to take advantage of the inconsistent nature of Douglas Athletic to claim some points from their encounter in Crosby.

Finally, Rushen United will start as favourites to claim the points when they host a DHSOB side that has been plagued by postponements. The Blackberry Lane outfit has only played once since November.
