Corinthians clinched a maiden Canada Life Premier League title with victory over Marown on Saturday afternoon.

Blane Slattery’s men sealed the silverware but were made to work hard for it by the Crosby outfit.

Dan Simpson gave the Whites an early lead before Connor Gilbert levelled matters before half-time.

Marown then threatened to spoil the party when Nathan Draper put the visitors in front just minutes into the second half, only for Simpson to equalise moments later with his second of the afternoon.

That set the platform for the Whites to take control in the second half, with Tom Callister firing the hosts into the lead on the hour mark before captain Sean Doyle added a late brace to round off a 5-2 win and clinch the much-coveted silverware.

Nearest challengers Rushen United were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw with Ayre United at Croit Lowey, while likewise third-placed St Mary’s had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw away at Ramsey.

That result allowed St George’s to close the gap on the Saints after they got the better of 10-man Laxey 4-3 at Glen Road.

Elsewhere in the top flight, DHSOB secured their place in the Premier League next season with a 6-2 success at home to Douglas Athletic, a result which leaves the latter staring down the barrel of relegation.

Union Mills sealed the JCK Division Two league title in style with a convincing 8-1 victory over Governor’s Athletic in Colby.

RYCOB remain on course to claim the second promotion spot to the Premier League with a hard-fought 3-1 win at home to Braddan.

Likewise, Onchan and Malew boosted their hopes of a top-four finish with 9-2 and 5-1 victories over Douglas & District and Michael United respectively.

Gymns were in fine scoring form themselves as they recorded an 8-2 success over Pulrose United in Tromode.

Unfortunately, no details of the score between Foxdale and Colby have been received at the time of going to press.
