Corinthians’ impressive victory over Peel has been rewarded with three players being named in the latest Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

The Whites triumphed 2-1 against their western rivals at Douglas Road in the Canada Life Premier League to maintain their push for a place in this season’s Railway Cup semi-finals.

Picking up the man of the match honours in the heavyweight clash was Corinthians goalkeeper Matty Quirk who produced several good saves to prevent Peel’s second-half comeback from earning a share of the spoils.

Also impressing in that game in the Sunset City was centre-back Cameron Lee who delivered an assured display for the Whites as they stemmed the considerable threat of Messrs Gale, Oates and Simpson. Lee lines up in a three-man backline in the latest hypothetical XI alongside Rushen United’s Alex Maitland and St George’s mainstay Johnny Myers.

October Player of the Month Maitland has continued his fine start to the season and was one of the Spaniards’ star players as they got the better of relegation-threatened Pulrose United, the classy centre-back also getting on the scoresheet at Croit Lowey.

Myers was the star of the show at the Bowl as St George’s locked horns with old foes St Mary’s, the Geordies number five scoring a hat-trick - including a stunning free-kick for his third - as the Saints played out a dramatic 4-4 draw at the national stadium.

Another to take the plaudits in the match was Myers’ ex-team-mate Jack McVey who was in typically fine form for the hosts and netting two goals from the penalty spot, including the late, late injury-time spotkick which salvaged a point for his side.

Lining up in a four-man midfield alongside McVey are Rushen’s Alex Guy, DHSOB talent Jack Towsend and his team-mate Ryan Gartland.

Like his fellow Spaniard, Guy was one of Rushen’s standout performers as they got the better of a stubborn Pulrose side and also got his name on the scoresheet in the south.

Townsend and Gartland both shone for Old Boys as they claimed their second of the 2019-20 season, the latter netting once and Townsend’s brace capping off a man of the match performance at Douglas Royal.

Leading from the front in a three-man attack in the latest Team of the Week are Laxey duo Aaron Bradley and Jordan Cooper who are joined by Corinthians playmaker Stephen Whitley.

Bradley netted twice as the Miners continued their excellent start to the season with victory over Douglas Athletic at Glen Road, while Cooper went one better with a hat-trick in their 8-2 win which puts him top of the current Golden Boot standings.

On the opposite side of the island, Whitley proved a constant thorn in the Peel defence as he set up both of Corinthians’ goals and duly earns his fourth TotW appearance of the season already.

Picking up the refereeing honours for the third time this season is Stuart Kneen who took the plaudits in the middle of the Douglas Royal v DHSOB game at Ballafletcher.
