The latest Isle of Man Newspapers Team of the Week is an Friends Provident International FA special.

The hypothetical XI is made up of those that impressed in Saturday’s three rearranged quarter-final ties.

Foxdale made it into the competition’s semi-final stages for the first time at the weekend after they beat fellow Division Two side Douglas and District 2-1 at the Bowl.

Two of the Dale side make it into the XI - experienced centre-back Antony Corkill and striker Aaron Costain.

Although it was the westerners that advanced to a tasty looking semi-final against Peel, it was Douglas and District goalkeeper Darren that took the man-of-the-match honours.

Armstrong claims the TotW’s coveted number one jersey after producing a number of fine stops including a great save to deny a Costain penalty.

Joining Corkill in the TotW back four are St Mary’s Karl Clark, Douglas Athletic’s Lewis Daly and Peel’s veteran full-back Daniel Lace.

Defender Daly was one of the Pinks’ stand-out performers as they caused a mini-cupset and beat near neighbours St Mary’s 4-3.

Also impressing on the Springfield Road pitch was Saints’ centre-back Clark who was the Bowl outfit’s best player in the seven-goal thriller.

In his 601st first-team appearance, Lace shows no signs of slowing down and produced a typically hard-working performance at left-back as holders Peel cruised past second-tier Braddan 8-1.

Lace’s club-mates Marc Kelly and Matty Woods also make it into the TotW cup special.

Kelly and Woods laid on a couple of goals apiece in the big win at Colby, the former capping his good performance with a well-taken goal.

The pair are joined in a three-man midfield by Douglas Athletic’s Jamie Clague who produced a battling performance in the Pinks’ midfield engine room.

Up top Costain is joined by two more of Athletic’s quarter-final heroes.

Targetman Cowan has had a good season leading the line for Athletic and bagged a goal in Saturday’s famous win.

Grabbing the headlines and the side’s final TotW spot is fellow Pinks striker Connor Dowell, the ex-St Mary’s forward coming back to haunt his former club with an injury time winner.

Dowell, had only been on the pitch 15 minutes after only returning to the island the night before after six months travelling.

The Referee of the Week also comes from this match, Oliver Johnson shining with the whistle.
