The latest installment of Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week is an FA Cup special after last weekend’s first round matches.

Laxey’s stunning comeback win against Douglas Athletic and Corinthians’ impressive demolition job at Rushen United sees both teams well represented, while there are also several Division Two players taking the plaudits.

Corinthians sent out a strong statement of intent as they bid to defend the trophy with a ruthless 5-1 win away at Rushen and producing several good saves in that match was Adam Killey who duly dons the goalkeeper gloves in the latest hypothetical XI.

Lining up in a three-man defence in front of Killey are Pulrose United’s Owen Quayle, Douglas Royal’s Kyle Jones and St George’s starlet Maleigh Freestone.

Quayle delivered a good showing as he helped Pully see off the potentially tricky challenge of fellow second division side Gymns 3-1 at Springfield Road, while Freestone shone for Geordies as they got the better of Douglas Royal.

Stealing the show in that match at Glencrutchery Road was Whites’ defender Jones who provided stoic resistance against the Saints and played a key role in keeping the scoreline respectable.

The second division is also well represented in the four-man midfield in Team of the Week, with Luke Roberts and Mark O’Neill leading the way for Colby and Pulrose respectively.

Both produced man of the match performances for their sides, with Roberts grabbing a goal as the Moonlighters claimed a fine 2-0 win over promotion-chasing Foxdale and O’Neill finding the back of the net in the aforementioned victory over Gymns.

Completing the midfield quartet are Josh Thomas and Stan Manning, Thomas claiming the man of the match honours for St Mary’s outfit as the Bowl outfit thrashing Union Mills 9-0 while Manning starred in Laxey’s comeback win at home to DAFC.

There’s certainly no shortage of goals up front in the latest Team of the Week, with the three players helping themselves to no fewer than nine between them on Saturday.

Leading the way was Peel striker Shaun Kelly who ran the show with a four-goal haul during the westerners’ 8-0 mauling of Marown, before ending the game in defence.

Joining him up front is Laxey’s Joe Walters who bagged a hat-trick to inspire the Miners to come from 4-1 down to win 5-4 against Athletic, while Dan Simpson starred for Corinthians by grabbing a brace and having a hand in several others during the Whites’ rampant win at Croit Lowey.

Another man to impress in that game was Andy Lodge who officiated the game well and duly receives the referee of the week plaudits.
