The Isle of Man FA’s men’s side begins its bid for a third Inter-League Cup title on Saturday evening at the Bowl.

The Cheshire League provide the opposition in the competition’s first round this weekend as Paul Jones’s squad work to emulate the feats of 2006 and 2014.

The last time these two sides met was in November 2015, the island side winning the second round tie at a rain-lashed Knutsford 0-9.

Although another scoreline that big is unlikely, the hosts will be confident of advancing into the next round having impressed against several professional sides over the last 18 months.

Jones has largely kept faith with the squad that he has assembled over the summer months.

However, he will be without Lee Gale and Jack McVey who are off-island and St George’s Jacob Crook who, like Corinthians’ Sam Baines, is too young for the competition.

Geordies provide six of the 16-man match day squad including youngsters Joel Ibanez, Jay Skelcher-Maxwell and Joe Quayle.

Ashley Higginbotham and experienced duo Furo Davies and Chris Bass Jr are the others representing the Glencrutchery Road club.

Reigning top-flight champions St Mary’s provide three to the squad including skipper Frank Jones and versatile duo Alex Harrison and Connor Birch.

Peel trio Rhys Oates, Matty Woods and new signing Dan Simpson join Rushen keeper Dean Kearns and defender Alex Maitland in the selection.

Simpson’s former club Corinthians contribute the remaining players in the shape of Ryan Burns and Sean Doyle.

Victory in this competition would secure the FA side secure another shot at representing England at the UEFA Regions Cup, having previously attended tournaments in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
