There are another five new faces in the latest installment of Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

Despite only three games going ahead in the Canada Life Premier League last Saturday, there was no shortage of goals with 22 being scored.

The lion’s share of those arrived at Glen Road where defending champions St Mary’s ruthlessly beat Laxey 7-3 to open up a two-point gap at the top of the table.

Two of the players to impress in that match were Karl Clark and reigning Player of the Year Jack McVey who duly form half of a four-man defence in the latest hypothetical XI.

The St Mary’s duo were both in fine form against the Miners, with Clark earning his second TotW appearance of the season and McVey his fourth after helping himself to a brace of goals at the other end of the pitch.

Slotting in alongside the Saints at the back are Peel’s centre-back Dominic McGreevy and his Douglas Athletic counterpart James Aire.

McGreevy made a welcome return to the westerners’ starting line-up for the first time this season and produced a fine display to help the Sunset City side defeat the previously unbeaten St George’s at Douglas Road.

Despite ending up on the wrong end of a 3-1 result, Aire and his goalkeeper Adam Kinvig shone for DAFC as they frustrated Rushen United in the south of the island at Croit Lowey, therefore they both sealed their places in TotW.

Another to impress in that contest in Port Erin was Greg Norris whose burgeoning reputation was further enhanced thanks to a man of the match showing for the Spaniards, therefore he takes his place in a three-man midfield.

Lining up next to him in the middle of the park are Peel’s Daniel Bell and St Mary’s captain Frank Jones who were in goalscoring form in their respective matches.

Jones netted twice as the Saints got the better of this season’s surprise package Laxey, while Bell netted his landmark 200th goal for Peel with a bullet header against Geordies.

He is only the 11th known player to have reached this landmark for the club.

Stealing the show in that game at Douglas Road though - and providing the cross for Bell’s goal - was Lee Gale who scored a second-half hat-trick to put Geordies to the sword and reignite the westerners’ season. As such, it’s no surprise to see the winger take his place in the latest Team of the Week in a three-man frontline alongside Matty Kent-Lloyd of St Mary’s and Rushen’s Jamie Johnston.

Kent-Lloyd returned to haunt his former club Laxey with two goals in that aforementioned clash at Glen Road, while Johnston continued his fine start to the season with a double salvo of his own against Athletic.

Claiming the referee of the week honours for the first time this season is Anthony Page who impressed in the middle of the Laxey v St Mary’s clash.
