St George’s showed why they are the current Canada Life Premier League champions and the dominant force in Manx football, after coming from behind to beat title rivals Rushen Utd 6-2 at Glencrutchery Road on Wednesday.

It was the visitors who started the brighter, Josh Thomas giving the Spaniards a ninth minute lead, slamming home after the hosts didn’t deal with a corner.

Geordies got their equaliser with 20 minutes played when Joey Morling’s throw-in was flicked on and met by Furo Davies’s flying scissor-kick.

Four minutes later, Davies yet again haunted his former club, giving St George’s the lead. Davies collected a ball over the top before coolly dispatching the ball into the net.

With the match finely poised after completion of the first half, Geordies yet again asserted their authority with a superb second-half performance.

A great referee decision from Andy Lodge allowed play to continue, Calum Morrissey set up Joey Morling to crash home an effort on the right to make it 3-1.

Sean Quaye headed home Geordies fourth from Morling’s corner and the former Mills’ player was also involved in his side’s fifth. His cross-field ball found Davies at the far post, his downward header was intercepted by Alex Maitland who diverted the ball into his own net.

Morrissey scored Geordies sixth after Kearns could only parry Davies’s powerful shot.

In the closing stages Mike Williams pulled a goal back for the visitors after breaking clear on the left.
