Corinthians’ hopes of lifting a first Canada Life Premier League took a hammer blow on Tuesday evening as Peel defeated them 2-1.
The result means the Whites are now trailing league leaders St George’s by six points, having played a game more than their rivals.
If Geordies win the first of the pair’s two rearranged fixtures next Tuesday they will clinch a 13th top-flight crown in 15 seasons.
In a re-run of Easter’s FA Cup final, Peel took the lead when Lee Gale scored from the penalty spot after a handball.
Sean Doyle nodded in the equaliser before Tom Wood extinguished the Whites title and Grand Slam hopes with a goal in injury time.
Geordies had to come from behind to beat third-bottom Douglas Royal 2-7 at Ballafletcher to move to within a few points of the league crown.
Bottom side Ramsey took another step to joining already relegated Colby in the second tier next season as they lost 0-2 at home to St John’s. The northerners are six points from safety with three games left to play against Peel, Rushen and DHSOB.
Elsewhere, Rushen United beat Laxey 1-4 in their penultimate game of the league season, while in the evening’s other match Douglas Athletic came from behind to beat Braddan 1-2 at Victoria Road thanks to goals from Lewis Daly and Mikey Callister.
In Division Two, the race for the league’s two promotion spots looks to be a three-way shoot-out between Castletown, Foxdale and Marown.
Town, who didn’t play on Tuesday, require a point from their final game against Marown to rubber-stamp their place in the top-flight.
Foxdale beat Michael United 4-0 to maintain their promotion charge ahead of two remaining games against Douglas and District and RYCOB.
Marown, who have five games left to play, could yet pip both after they beat Onchan 4-3 to all but end the Os’ hopes of a Paul Henry Gold Cup spot.
Pulrose should clinch the final spot in that competition after the beat Gymns 8-1, with a final game against Michael United remaining.
Luke Booth gave his Silver Boot bid a massive shot in the arm as he hit all seven of Union Mills’ goals in their 7-1 win over Governor’s Athletic.
