Laxey secured their place in the Canada Life Premier League for another season in dramatic fashion on Tuesday evening.
The Miners came from two goals down to beat relegation rivals St John’s 2-3 at Mullen-e-Cloie thanks to Tom Cowin’s stoppage-time winner.
Harry Rothwell’s early strike had put the Saints in front, before Jamie Crook doubled the hosts’ lead in the 50th minute.
John Palmer’s Glen Road outfit, however, showed the fighting spirit that has seen them claw their way to safety after being seemingly cut adrift in bottom spot a few weeks ago.
Stan Manning got his side back into the match in the 57th minute before Michael Fernandes drew the two teams level seven minutes later.
Laxey then pressed for a winner knowing this was their best chance of claiming points ahead of a final league game against champions elect St Mary’s.
Chances came and went and a draw looked on the cards until Cowin struck in injury time to move his side up above their opponents, Douglas Royal and already finished Castletown in the top-flight standings.
The Johnners and Royal meet in the pair’s final league game next Tuesday evening in what is essentially a relegation play-off. A draw would see Royal back in Division Two next season as they have much worse goal difference.
At the other end of the standings, Peel’s feint title hopes took a potentially fatal blow as they lost 3-0 at Corinthians. On target for the Whites were Dan Simpson, Connor Gorman and Sean Doyle.
The westerners now trail leaders St Mary’s, who triumphed at 6-1 at DHSOB, by three points and also have played a game more.
JCK Division Two’s promotion race also took a twist as Pulrose United suffered a 3-1 defeat away at Ayre United.
Malew took advantage to join leaders RYCOB in the league’s two promotion places with a 4-1 win at Gymns.
Ramsey also remain in the hunt after they beat Douglas and District 3-1 at Noble’s Park with goalkeeper Jamie Moffatt among the scorers.
In the evening’s other games, Carl Hickey bagged five goals as Colby beat Michael United 6-2, while Foxdale beat Union Mills 3-1 to remain in the hunt for a top-four finish.
