Peel and Isle of Man FA striker Rhys Oates could be plying his trade in the Conference North after impressing while on trial at Chester.

The 24-year-old, who hit 38 goals for Peel last season, was offered a trial at the former league club after catching the eye of Chester’s joint-manager Anthony Johnson during the recent Inter-Island tournament in Anglesey.

Oates travelled with the Chester squad to Cornwall, netting a hat-trick in a 9-1 friendly win over Newquay.

The former St John’s forward now has to wait to see if he has done enough to earn a deal for the new season.

Johnson’s co-manager Bernard Morley told Cheshire Live on Thursday: ’Rhys has gone back to the Isle of Man and he impressed us massively.

’We’ve had a conversation with Rhys about how it can happen and what type of money it’s going to be.

’He just wants an opportunity to be in this league and I think he has done enough to be given that opportunity.

’However, money talks and if we can work it we will work it and if not we will do our best to get him somewhere located round here so we can keep an eye on him.

’He’s done really well and his desire and determination on a football pitch you don’t see much - there’ll be an answer made on that this week.’
