St George’s could complete a league and cup treble this week when they chase glory in the Cu-Plas Railway Cup on Wednesday evening.

For the second time in four days, Chris Bass Sr’s perennial champions will lock horns with Corinthians as they bid to claim the last silverware on offer for top flight teams this season.

Having clinched an astonishing 13th Premier League title in 15 years recently, Geordies added the Hospital Cup to their trophy cabinet thanks to a 4-3 success at the national stadium at the weekend.

Both teams struggled a bit in terms of injuries before and during Saturday’s clash as the end of a long and sometimes fractured season draws near, and there is contrasting team news ahead of Wednesday’s showpiece.

Chris Bass Jr and Sam Caine both missed the final but Bass is having stitches removed from a knee injury and so should be in contention, while Caine has overcome his knock from the semi-final and is available.

Joe Quayle is back on island while both Furo Davies and Jay Skelcher-Maxwell are confident of recovering from knocks sustained on Saturday in time for Wednesday. One surprise inclusion could be that of Calum Morrissey who has missed the majority of the season but has come through a few training sessions unscathed and may make an appearance.

The team news is not so positive from a Corinthians perspective though, with doubts surrounding some of their star players.

Tom Smith remains out with a facial injury sustained in the recent league meeting, while Phil Kelly is expected to missed out after spraining his ankle in the last 10 minutes of Saturday’s contest.

Calum Campbell is suffering from a thigh strain while star centre-back Chris Cannell remains a long-term absentee with a knee injury.

Connor Gorman will be a big miss after aggravating his thigh in the Hospital Cup while Ryan Gartland is unavailable.

The big news though is arguably that of captain Sean Doyle withdrawal with an ankle injury while Luke Murray is struggling after eight games in three weeks.

All this means manager Danny McMahon will see his side start as underdogs against the Saints, but they will be desperate to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment and should be fired up for what could be an interesting contest.

Kick-off is at 7pm.
