Division Two champions Ramsey rounded off a successful season by clinching the Paul Henry Gold Cup at the Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
In front of a good crowd at the national stadium, the Ballacloan outfit came from behind to beat town rivals Ramsey Youth Centre 3-1.
Lewis Moran put the latter ahead after only six minutes. Some stubborn Youthie defence kept the second-tier champions at bay until just after the half-hour mark when Tom Bentham’s stooping header levelled the tie.
Just before the break there was a lengthy delay while an injury to Youthie forward Dan Sherry was dealt with.
It was his side, however, who made the brighter start to the second period without really testing Ramsey keeper Jamie Moffatt.
At the other end of the pitch, top scorer Dylan Pickles began to make his influence felt and he reacted quickest to nod in after Youthie number one Greg Radcliffe had produced a good save.
With little over 10 minutes left on referee Mark Thomas’s watch Pickles wrapped up the trophy win for his side when he headed in a looped cross from the right at the back post.
Fuller report in Tuesday’s Examiner.
