St Mary’s closed to within three points of Canada Life Premier League leaders Peel on Saturday with victory over St John’s United at the Bowl.

The 3-0 win thanks to goals from Frank Jones (2) and Craig Murphy means the Saints are within striking distance of the westerners with a game in hand on their title rivals.

The top two meet in the league on February 16 in a match that could go a long way to deciding the destination of this season’s top-flight silverware.

Reigning champions St George’s brought Rushen United’s long unbeaten run to an end at Glencrutchery Road.

Geordies won 4-1 to move above the Spaniards and into third.

Ciaran McNulty gave the hosts an early lead before Rushen striker Dan Hattersley saw his penalty saved by Geordies goalkeeper Glenn Walker.

Calum Morrissey then added a second to give the hosts a two-goal lead at the break.

Joey Morling added a third before Jordan Watterson pulled one back for the visitors.

Chris Bass Jr wrapped up the win in the 75th minute with a fourth goal.

Corinthians are a point behind the aforementioned duo after they won the Ballafletcher derby with Douglas Royal 10-2.

At the foot of the standings, Marown took a big step toward Premier League safety with a 2-1 win at Old Boys. On target for the Crosby outfit were Joey Rothwell and Stuart Morris who are now seven points clear of bottom side Laxey.

Castletown remain second bottom after they narrowly lost 4-3 at Springfield Road to Douglas Athletic.

In JCK Division Two, Foxdale’s promotion hopes took a blow as they were beaten 3-2 at Colby.

Pulrose United and RYCOB remain in the second tier’s top two spots.

Pacesetters Pully scored a good 4-1 win over Union Mills, while Youthie were in ruthless form as they dispatched Michael United 1-12 at Balleira Road.

With Ramsey’s derby game Ayre United a late victim of the weather, Malew are up to third after a 8-2 win over bottom side Governor’s Athletic.

Onchan also scored eight on Saturday as they beat Douglas and District at the Nivison.
