Hospital Cup holder St George’s cruised into next weekend’s semi-finals with a big 1-9 win over fellow Premier League side St John’s who ended up the pair’s quarter-final tie with 10 men.

Fellow top-flight sides Rushen United and Douglas Athletic both survived scares against Division Two sides Malew and Marown.

The Spaniards had to come from behind to beat the former 2-3 at Clagh Vane. Dale Walker and Dan McLaughlin struck either side of the break to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

However, second-half Rushen goals from Jamie Johnston (2) and Josh Kelly saw United through to the last four.

Douglas Athletic were run even closer and required penalties to edge past a dogged Marown.

Andy O’Neill gave the Division Two side the advantage midway through the first half.

Will Penhallurick hit back for the hosts at the start of the second period before Marown once again took the lead when sub Connor Gilbert nodded in.

Athletic again clawed their way back into it when Mikey Callister lashed in a second for his side.

A Lewis Daley penalty put the Premier League side in front for this first team after 70 minutes, but a fine strike from Marown sub Kevin Druggan in the last 10 minutes sent the tie to extra time.

Athletic edged ahead in the additional 30 when Darren Shields tucked away a tidy finish. This looked to have won the Pinks the tie until Stuey Morris popped up to level the game once more with the last kick of the game.

This sent the tie to spot-kicks where Athletic keeper Lee Filson took centre stage saving two Marown penalties as Athletic triumphed 3-1.

In the other quarter-final tie, Corinthians beat St Mary’s 0-2 at the Bowl with Ste Whitley at the double.

In the Canada Life Premier League, Colby were relegated. The southerners lost 0-8 at home to Peel in their last game of the season. The Station Fields side slipped into the bottom two as Braddan beat bottom side Ramsey 3-2 to move two points ahead of Colby in the standings. On target for the Swans who move up to third from bottom were Andy Glover (2) and Stuart Pacey.

The day’s other top-flight game ended in a 3-1 win for DHSOB over Laxey.

In Division Two, Castletown returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over fellow promotion contenders Pulrose at the Stadium.

Foxdale moved up to second after they beat Gymns 8-1 at Tromode.

Union Mills edged past Ayre United 3-2 in the division’s other game.

RYCOB finally wrapped up the JCK Combination Two title with a 3-0 victory over Union Mills.
