The preliminary round of the Friends Provident International FA Cup failed to produce any upsets.

The Premier League’s bottom side Laxey saw off Division Two promotion contenders RYCOB 6-3 in a high-scoring game at Glen Road.

The Miners raced into a three-goal lead inside 20 minutes thanks to strikes from Joe Walters, Michael Fernandes and Matty Wilkinson.

Two goals in a matter fo minutes, however, from Ste Grose and Marc McClurg hauled Youthie back into the match.

Fernandes struck again prior to half-time to give his side a 4-2 lead at the interval.

Jason Craine pulled another one back for the second-tier side at the start of the second 45, but the northerners were then reduced to 10 men by referee Tommy Crowe when Lewis Moran was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Youthie took their game to their opponents, but further goals from Walters and Tommy Callow secured the Miners’ passage into the first round proper.

Douglas Royal also avoided a potential banana skin as the top-flight team beat Ramsey 2-1 at Ballacloan.

Rushen United made the long trip to Andreas worthwhile as they beat host Ayre United 2-0.

Douglas Athletic also got the better of Division Two opponents beating Douglas and District 3-1 at Springfield Road.St Mary's made short work of Michael United, winning 12-0 at the re-opened Bowl.

In the round’s two all-Premier League clashes, holders Corinthians beat St John’s United 7-1, while St George’s edged past Castletown 1-0.

Division Two sides Gymns and Pulrose United are through to the next round. Gymns beat Onchan 2-1 at Tromode, while Pully beat Governor’s Athletic 8-0 at Bemahague.

In the Premier League, Peel stretched their legs at the top with a 5-0 win at Marown, while in the day’s sole game in JCK Division Two, Malew missed the chance to put pressure on the top two as they lost 4-3 to Union Mills at Clagh Vane. A Kyle Uren double, plus other strikes from Jack Murray and Ed Howland ensured the win for the Millers.
