St George’s will meet rivals Peel in Boxing Day’s Railway Cup final after the pair won their respective semis on Saturday afternoon.

Geordies booked their place in a ninth Railway Cup final in a row with a 4-0 victory over St Mary’s at the Bowl.

The latter side, who were missing influential duo Frank Jones and Jack McVey, made a bright start but found themselves 0-1 down to Ciaran McNulty’s strike at half-time.

A quickfire double from Joey Morling at the start of the second period swung the game decisively in Geordies favour before a 30-yard screamer from Joel Ibanez wrapped up the win in style for Chris Bass Sr’s side. To compound St Mary’s misery, full-back Nathan Halsall was sent off late on after picking up two bookings.

In the other semi, Peel edged past Corinthians 3-2 at Douglas Road thanks to Kerron Christian’s 85th-minute winner.

In a topsy-turvy encounter in the west of the island, Danny McMahon’s Whites edged ahead when Tom Smith thumped home a fine header from a corner, only for Rhys Oates to fire his side level five minutes later with an impressive strike into the roof of the net.

In the second half Corinthians retook the lead when Luke Murray arrowed in an excellent low shot from the edge of the box, but Kerron Christian soon rose above visiting goalkeeper Adam Killey to head the hosts level once again following Lee Gale’s cross.

With only minutes remaining of normal time, the latter two combined again when Gale’s low cross from the right was bundled home from close range by Christian to seal Peel’s place in the final to the delight of the home crowd.

The day’s league programme was hit by the weather with only a handful of games going ahead.

In the Canada Life Premier League, Douglas Royal moved off the foot of the standings with a 2-2 draw against Douglas Athletic.

On target for Royal were Terry Rigaux and Taylor Andrews who nearly snatched the win in injury time when they hit the bar.

Rushen United continued their recent march up the table with a 3-1 win over struggling Laxey at Croit Lowey.

In JCK Division Two, Douglas and District racked up their biggest win in 12 years with a 10-1 win over Governor’s Athletic.

Daniel Stewart-Clague and Rob McCowliff both bagged for goal apiece, joining Dylan Hanna and Rick Radcliffe on the scoresheet.

Onchan won the second tier’s other game 8-2 at Michael United.
