Peel took the bragging rights in Saturday’s latest Old Firm encounter at Douglas Road.

The westerners beat Rushen United 3-2 to move up above their opponents and into second in the Canada Life Premier League standings.

Ryan Crawley put the Spaniards ahead only for Dan Simpson to bring the westerners level shortly after.

Peel stalwart Kerron Christian put his side back in front at the start of the second half, Simpson adding a third from the penalty spot for Steve Falconer’s hosts.

Rushen pulled once back through Ste Riding, but couldn’t find a late leveller as Peel held on to claim a fine win that was only overshadowed by a serious-looking injury to striker Rhys Oates.

St George’s kept their feint title charge alive with a 7-1 win over Marown.

The pair were level at the break, but a hat-trick from Calum Morrissey and other goals from Joe Quayle, Furo Davies and Chris Bass (2) ensured Geordies move up to third.

At the foot of the standings it’s as you were as Ramsey and Douglas Royal also lost.

The former were beaten 2-1 at Douglas Athletic, while Royal, who had to play two thirds of the game with 10 men after Craig Dolman was sent off, went down 5-3 at Laxey.

Corinthians were the afternoon’s other victors in the top flight, beating DHSOB 7-2 at Ballafletcher.

In JCK Division Two, Colby remain top after beating Gymns 7-2 at the Station Fields.

Ayre United are second after they came from behind to beat promotion rivals Braddan 5-2 at Victoria Road.

Elsewhere in the top half of the table, Jay Chatwood scored six goals as Onchan were defeated 1-7 on their own patch, while RYCOB came out on top 11-4 in a 15-goal thriller at Governor’s Athletic.

Michael United bagged a good 7-1 win at Malew thanks to goals from Galácticos Ciaran McNulty (2) and Andy Glover (3), plus strikes from Owen Hurt and veteran Michael Perks.

St John’s kept their title charge going on Friday evening, with a 2-1 in over Douglas and District under the floodlights of Mullen-e-Cloie.

Goals from Harry Rothwell and Richard Winn means the Saints are five points off the summit, but with three games in hand.
