Manx football’s new league season began on Saturday afternoon.

In the Canada Life Premier League, Corinthians beat St John’s 6-1 to move top of the fledgling standings.

Two of the other title contenders, St Mary’s and St George’s, went head-to-head at the Bowl the pair drawing 1-1.

Rushen took the southern bragging rights in a 3-0 triumph at Castletown, while in the CLPL’s other derby of sorts, Douglas Athletic edged past DHSOB 3-2.

Peel beat Douglas Royal in the opening weekend’s other top-flight game 4-1.

In the battle of the recently relegated sides in JCK Division Two, Ramsey overcame Colby 6-0.

The northerners’ town neighbours, RYCOB, were also victorious beating Union Mills 3-4 at Garey Mooar.

Steven Priestnal’s first official game in charge of Pulrose United ended in a 1-0 win over Onchan, while Ayre United got their season off to a good start with a 2-1 win over Gymns.

Foxdale began their title bid with a narrow 3-2 victory over Governor’s Athletic, while Malew beat Michael United 5-2.
