St George’s won a dramatic FPI FA Cup final at the Bowl on Easter Monday, beating holders Peel 3-2 after extra-time.
Chris Bass Sr’s side were starring down the barrel of a second successive FA Cup final defeat when Kerron Christian’s second goal of the match gave the westerners a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into extra time.
However, Geordies never-say-side attitude once again came to the fore as Sean Quaye headed home an equaliser with eight minutes left before skipper Frank Jones slotted in a dramatic winner only two minutes later.
The result means that the FA Cup joins the Premier League and Railway Cup titles in the Glencrutchery Road trophy cabinet this season. As a consquence the club are only one trophy, the Hospital Cup, away from securing an unprecedented third Grand Slam.
