All eyes will be on the Bowl on Sunday afternoon when St George’s and DHSOB battle it out for Ascot Hotel Junior Cup glory.

On paper, Combination One runners-up Old Boys look favourites to lift the trophy and claim some consolation for missing out on the league title for the first time in fours years. But Geordies will be brimming with confidence having knocked out newly-crowned Combi One champions Rushen United in the semi-finals last weekend thanks to a 2-1 victory at Glencrutchery Road.

Old Boys are in ruthless form in front of goal at the moment, having plundered 38 goals in the last eight outings and, with the Blackberry Lane side lying some 18 points ahead of Geordies, they will fancy their chances of winning the trophy.

Last time the sides met, however, it was the Saints who triumphed 3-1 and, with the likes of Maleigh Freestone in superb scoring form, they have the talent to clinch the silverware themselves.

Old Boys manager Liam Buckley has a much-reduced squad after a spate of injuries at the business end of the season.Dean France unfortunately suffered a broken leg in midweek and therefore he is unavailable.

Also joining him on the sidelines are Robbie Ward, JJ Balanda and Dave Quirk so it will be a much-changed starting XI on Sunday.

For Geordies, Dave Cherry will start in goal having been a near ever-present for the combi, while Lewis Bridson, Cameron Kay and experienced stalwart Barry Hardinge - who played 90 minutes for the first team versus Douglas Royal on Tuesday - will slot in alongside Karl Henson who has been one of the outstanding combination players this season in defence or midfield.

Ryan Kelly has been on the comeback trail recently - grabbing a decisive goal in the semi-finals - and may start out wide but will be vying for position with Tom Chatel who has been plying his trade for the first team lately.

Mark Connor and Jay Skelcher-Maxwell will look to keep their partnership in the centre of midfield and Sid Batty, who flew back for the semi, may also be on contention if he makes the trip over again. Up front in-form Freestone should start, but Jonny Quirk is out through injury which is a big blow.

Johnny Fee, Wes Dowling and Gaz Lloyd provide the experience in the squad and will play a vital part in the outcome.

Kick-off is at 3pm.
