There’s a big game in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday as reigning champions St George’s travel to third-place Peel.
Games between these pair are always eagerly anticipated and the weekend’s game at Douglas Road is no different with pair jostling for position at the head of the standings.
Geordies, in a way, have been victims of their own success in recent weeks as call-ups to the Isle of Man FA’s senior and under-18 sides has left them without a game since September 23.
They blew away some of the cobwebs with a friendly win against St John’s on Tuesday and should be pretty much at full-strength for the encounter against their old rivals.
Calum Morrissey and Johnny Myers are likely to play some part after recovering from injuries, while Chris Bass Jr may also make the squad after the completion of his fire service training in the UK.
Peel, who ended Corinthians’ 100 per cent start to the campaign in their last outing, also look well manned with Marc Kelly likely to feature after overcoming the hamstring injury he picked up on Umbro Quadrangular duty.
Expect a narrow Geordies win.
DHSOB have been quietly climbing up the table in recent weeks after wins over Colby and Douglas Royal.
Wayne Kennedy’s men will face a much sterner test of their Railway Cup credentials this weekend when they travel to a Corinthians side smarting from their first defeat of the season last time out.
Rushen United continue to play catch-up having only played four games so far.
The Spaniards travel to a Braddan side that has impressed on their return to the top-flight and United will need to be at their best if they are to avoid a slip up.
Ramsey have also only turned out four times this campaign and currently sit second bottom in the standings. They host Douglas Athletic at Ballacloan in a game the Pinks will be favourites to take the points in.
Douglas Royal sit bottom of the standings with a solitary point. Opponents St Mary’s have yet to really get going this season and Royal may fancy their chances of an unlikely point or three from the game at Ballafletcher.
A St John’s side unbeaten in five should have the edge in their encounter at Colby in the top-flight’s other game.
