St George’s marked their 100th anniversary with a thrilling come-from-behind victory against rivals Corinthians in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

The Whites raced into an early two-goal lead at a windy Glencrutchery Road thanks to strikes from Fraser Vaughan and Stephen Whitley, before Chris Bass Jr halved the deficit for Geordies.

Danny Gerrard restored Corinthians’ two-goal cushion but the returning Calum Morrissey turned the game on its head by netting twice for the hosts while a Furo Davies strike sealed a 4-3 win for St George’s.

Elsewhere in the top flight, champions St Mary’s continued their quest to defend the title with a ruthless 8-0 win over neighbours Pulrose United at the Bowl.

Rushen United maintained the pressure on the Saints with a 2-0 win over Marown courtesy of a Ryan Crawley brace, while two goals from Danny Lane earned Peel a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ramsey, Jamie Moffitt netting for the northerners.

With Corinthians losing, Laxey missed a chance to leapfrog the Whites as they went down by the odd goal in seven against an impressive DHSOB side at Glen Road.

Ayre United continue to set the pace at the top of JCK Division Two after they got the better of northern rivals RYCOB 3-1 in Andreas, one of only three games to survive the weather in the second tier.

Colby have moved up to second in the table thanks to a 4-1 win over plucky Governor’s Athletic at Bemahague, while the only other game to go ahead saw Michael United and Douglas & Douglas share six goals at Balleira Road.
