No fewer than nine players make their seasonal debuts in the latest installment of Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

Only St George’s veterans Sean Quaye and James McStay have appeared in the hypothetical XI already this season prior to the latest selection.

Both Quaye and McStay impressed for the Glencrutchery Road juggernauts as they maintained their 100 per cent winning record with a 3-1 success at home to previously in-form Rushen United.

The duo excelled in defence as they nullified the Spaniards’ attack, with Quaye even getting in on the act at the other end of the pitch by netting Geordies’ second goal of the afternoon.

They take their places in a traditional four-man defence alongside Ramsey’s Dominic Parish and Douglas Royal’s Dan Smith who shone against DHSOB and Douglas Athletic respectively.

Parish produced a man-of-the-match performance for the northerners as the Ballacloan side picked up a potentially vital point from their trip to Blackberry Lane, while Smith did likewise as he inspired the Whites to a 3-1 victory at Athletic which garnered their first points of the fledgling season.

They line up in front of Dean Kinley who was another to impress in the aforementioned match at Blackberry Lane, producing a good showing to edge out his opposite number, Andy Perry, for the coveted No.1 jersey in the latest TotW.

St Mary’s were the biggest winners of the day in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday, thrashing rivals Peel 5-1 at the national stadium, and they are duly rewarded with three players in Team of the Week.

Two of the trio appear in a four-man midfield, namely Tom Weir and captain Frank Jones, who slot in alongside Wael Mohammed and Connor Gilbert of Ramsey and Marown respectively.

Weir delivered a man-of-the-match showing at the Bowl as he helped to overpower the westerners and grabbed a goal in the process, as did Jones who produced a typically tireless and dynamic display to drive his side on as they overturned an early goal to eventually run out convincing winners.

Mohammed shone for Ramsey during their match at Old Boys, working hard for his team and very nearly grabbing a crucial goal with an effort which hit the woodwork, while Gilbert ran the show for Marown as the Crosby outfit came from 3-0 down - helped by his brace of goals - to eventually win 4-3 in injury time at Pulrose.

Grabbing two of those goals for Pully was Premier League legend Steven Priestnal who rolled back the years with a trademark ruthless performance in front of goal.

Therefore he lines up in a two-man frontline alongside St Mary’s winger Sammy Gelling who impressed for the Saints, tormenting the Peel defence throughout and having a hand in several goals.

Claiming the refereeing honours for the second week in a row is Andy Glover who impressed in the middle of the DHSOB v Ramsey clash.
