More than 100 girls took part in the football sessions at the Manx Youth Games the Saturday before last.
Played out at the Bowl on shortened pitches, 101 participants were in attendance, representing regional teams from the north, east, west and south in school years two to six. The aim was to encourage youngsters to play in a competitive and social environment.
Afterwards, Isle of Man Football Association women’s and girls’ football development officer Simon Elson gave a quick speech thanking those who helped out in making it an enjoyable afternoon.
Medals were presented to the participants by Corinthians women’s footballer Stevie Mallon, who also plays for Chester City’s under-18s and is aiming to make the step-up to the senior team.
Also handed out were water bottles, Manx Youth Games booklets and fliers detailing an all-girls football summer fun league for under-eights, u10s and u12s to be held every Saturday between May 29 to July 17.
It is hoped that this will increase participation within junior girls football.
