The end of the 2020-21 season fast approaches but another player makes his debut in the latest Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.
The player in question is St John’s star Lewis Daly who shone during the Saints’ impressive victory at Douglas Royal on Friday evening.
The centre-back helped the Mullen-e-Cloie outfit claim only their third win of the season, grabbing a goal during the Johnners’ 4-1 success at Ballafletcher.
Joining Daly in a four-man defence are Ramsey’s Dylan Pickles, St Mary’s star Karl Clark and St George’s man Connor Birch.
Pickles, playing in a somewhat unfamiliar defensive role, performed well for Ramsey as he grabbed a goal during the northerners’ 2-2 draw with St Mary’s at Ballacloan Stadium.
Likewise, Clark produced a typically assured performance at the back for St Mary’s in that match as he made his return from injury to claim his fourth Team of the Week appearance of the season.
His former team-mate Connor Birch starred for Geordies as the Glencrutchery Road outfit edged past Laxey in a seven-goal thriller at Glen Road to boost their bid for a top-three finish in the Canada Life Premier League.
Whilst his opposite number Harry Horbury was certainly a lot busier on Friday night, St John’s goalkeeper James Rice only conceded one goal at Ballafletcher and therefore dons the number one jersey in the hypothetical XI.
The three-man TotW midfield boasts no fewer than seven goals between them after another high-scoring day in the top flight.
Leading the way was DHSOB maestro Robbie Ward who helped himself to a hat-trick during Old Boys’ 6-3 victory at home to Douglas Athletic, a result which mathematically secured the Blackberry Lane outfit’s place in the Premier League for yet another season.
Penswick was at the double for Ayre United as the Tangerines took a step closer to clinching an impressive top-five finish with a fine 3-3 draw with high-flying Rushen United at Croit Lowey.
Until Saturday, the latter side had been in contention for the title but that draw, coupled with Corinthians’ win over Marown, ensured the silverware will make its way to Ballafletcher this season.
Starring for the Whites at home to Marown was Dan Simpson whose brace inspired his side to come from behind and see off the brave challenge of Marown to seal the title.
Lining up in a three-man attack in the latest Team of the Week are Nathan Cardy, Mike Williams and Gary Quirk who were all amongst the goals on Saturday with two apiece.
Youngster Cardy enhanced his burgeoning reputation with a brace during Geordies’ aforementioned victory at Laxey, while Williams was at the double to help salvage a point for Rushen at home to Ayre United.
Likewise, Quirk rolled back the years with a two-goal salvo for Old Boys as they left Douglas Athletic on the brink of relegation and duly takes his place in the select XI
