For the second week in a row, one of the island’s up-and-coming teenage goalkeepers steals the limelight in the latest Isle of Man Newspapers Team of the Week.

After Laxey’s Mason Prince impressed last week, it was the turn of Marown starlet Harry Horbury who stole the show against Peel in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper caused quite a stir at Douglas Road - and also on social media - when he pulled off a sublime acrobatic save to deny Andy Crennell’s goalbound volley, moments after saving a penalty from Rhys Oates.

Those heroics, plus several other fine saves, were more than enough to impress Eric Clague’s ratings panel and thus earn the Marown youngster the goalkeeper gloves in the latest hypothetical XI.

He lines up behind a back four consisting of Lewis Bridson, James McStay, Karl Clark and Drew Ward.

Full-back Bridson was in fine form for St George’s as he helped the Glencrutchery Road outfit ease past potential relegation candidates Douglas Royal by seven goals without reply on Saturday, therefore earning his first TotW call-up of the season.

Also claiming his maiden selection this season is a player who’s certainly been no stranger to Team of the Week, St Mary’s centre-back Clark who impressed at both ends of the pitch against Rushen United at the weekend.

The Saints defender successfully negated the considerable attacking threats of Rushen’s Mike Williams et al and also showcased his ability bringing the ball forward, creating numerous chances for his team-mates in their 3-2 win over the Spaniards.

The defensive quartet is completed by DHSOB’s star James McStay and former Old Boys player Drew Ward who produced fine performances against Laxey and Corinthians respectively.

McStay was named man of the match as the Blackberry Lane side thrashed out-of-sorts Laxey 6-1, while Ward delivered a dogged display as Douglas Athletic very nearly claimed a shock point from title hopefuls Corinthians before eventually losing 1-0.

The latter’s brother Robbie was another Old Boys player to star in the rampant win over the Miners and he grabbed himself a goal in an impressive all-round performance to book his place in Team of the Week.

Completing the midfield quartet are Corinthians’ wing wizard Dan Simpson, Peel skipper Daniel Bell and Rushen’s influential playmaker Ste Riding.

Simpson continued his excellent start to the 2018-19 season against Douglas Athletic, causing the Pinks’ defence problems throughout their clash at Springfield Road and setting up Sean Doyle’s late winner.

Riding ended up on the losing side against St Mary’s at the national stadium but set the tone for a resilient performance by Rushen when he netted a second-minute equaliser after Frank Jones had put the hosts ahead in the very first minute.

The Spaniards skipper led by example with a tireless performance and therefore earns his first Team of the Week call-up this season.

Bell was one of Peel’s standout performers as they found a way past Marown - and the aforementioned Horbury - scoring with a fine low effort from outside the box in the second half as the westerners claimed a 3-0 victory to bounce back from their midweek Old Firm defeat to Rushen.

There’s a distinct St George’s flavour to the leading line in the latest TotW as Chris Bass Jr and Ciaran McNulty complete the XI.

Bass Jr was in ruthless form as he delivered a man of the match performance against Douglas Royal, scoring a hat-trick in the 7-0 win, supplemented by team-mate McNulty who helped himself a brace to kickstart his quest for another Golden Boot.

Claiming the refereeing honours this week is Anthony Page who shone with the whistle during Peel’s 3-0 win over Marown at Douglas Road on Saturday, therefore earning his first Team of the Week appearance this season.
