The Keystone Law Hospital Cup bursts into life this weekend with 10 preliminary round ties set to take place.
Moved from its traditional Sunday evening slot to the more conventional time of Saturday afternoon for this season, pick of the games arguably takes place in Crosby.
There last Friday’s beaten GH Corlett Woods Cup finalists Marown host top-flight Douglas Royal in a game that could go either way.
Dave Brew’s hosts are among the second-tier’s promotion contenders, while Chris Feeney’s Royal remain perilously close to the Premier League’s relegation zone.
Marown will see this as a good gauge of their top-flight credentials and will be keen to put in a good performance against Feeney’s precocious youngsters who have lost their last seven outings.
Marown’s fellow promotion hopefuls Castletown also take on Premier League opposition in the form of FA Cup winners Corinthians.
Town’s hopes of advancing to the first round proper, however, look a lot slimmer than their counter-parts from Crosby.
The Whites will be riding the crest of a wave after clinching the club’s first major silverware and should make short work of Town.
Division Two Onchan must be wondering what they have done to anger the cup gods after they drew holders St George’s for the second time this season.
The pair met in the FA Cup in January, Geordies winning 5-0. Expect a similar result this time around.
St Mary’s should also have enough in their locker to see off second-tier opposition when they welcome Michael United to the Bowl.
Mired in mid-table, Saints player-coach Alex Harrison has pinpointed a good cup run for his side and they should be too strong for a United side that has only two wins to its name all campaign.
Pick of the three all-Premier League ties is at Glen Road where Laxey host Peel.
The latter will be keen to bounce back after last weekend’s FA Cup final defeat and should be favourites to edge past a Miners side that has struggled to get going again after its weather-enforced mid-season break.
St John’s might fancy their chances at a cup run after reaching the last four of the FA Cup.
They will be hoping to advance at the expense of a Ramsey side that remains at the foot of the Premier League table despite some improved recent performances.
The other top-flight match-up between Braddan and DHSOB should go the way of the latter, Old Boys winning 2-5 when the pair met as recently as Saturday at Victoria Road.
The round’s two remaining ties feature Division Two sides.
RYCOB will kick-off as favourites when they host Gymns at Tromode.
The other game between Pulrose and Foxdale looks a tough one to call.
The pair produced one of the games of the season when they met in the league last month, Dale snatching the win and the points 4-3.
