Reigning Isle of Man Disability Sportsperson of the Year Sean Jackson has enjoyed an impressive few months for Manchester City and England.

The amputee footballer has been busy competing in various competitions around the world, claiming silverware along the way.

Jackson formed part of the EAFA Sharks team that won the inaugural Irwin Mitchell England Amputee Super League. This was a new league set up consisting of three teams, with squads of England eligible players from the EAL playing to international cup rules. By winning the league, it means Sean will go on to play in the Amputee Champions League Finals next year with the Sharks, representing the EAL.

At the end of June, the former Marown, Laxey and St George’s player was in action during the finale of the England Amputee Football League, with Manchester City getting to the play-off final but narrowly losing to former champions Peterborough United.

Jackson was also in action recently for the England Under-23s in a round robin event against his counterparts from Turkey and Poland at Reaseheath College in Crewe, the home of the England amputee team.

They played each team twice over the two days but, despite losing all their games, it gave them good experience against top opposition and helped the squad realise where they need to be in order to match the top international teams in the world.

Most recently, Sean was in action in Switzerland with the Manchester City Amputee team to compete in a special needs European disability cup competition, going up against teams from the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, AC Milan, PSG and Benfica.

City successfully made it through to the third place-offs when they went up against Stuttgart and emerged triumphant in a penalty shootout to round off a successful weekend.

Sean’s hard work over the season with the England u23s and Manchester City has been rewarded with his selection for the England senior squad for the forthcoming 2019-20 season which will culminate in the European finals in Krakow, Poland.

He is part of a 20-man squad that will train all next season, including two international friendlies, before the final 13 are selected to attend the finals in September 2020.

To be part of the squad will also mean that he must raise £1,500 to help fund the EAFA charity to help send the squad to the European Cup so he will be actively seeking new sponsors to help him raise this money.
