There are several new faces in Paul Jones’s 22-man Isle of Man FA squad for Wednesday evening’s friendly with Brentford B at the Bowl.
Jones has shuffled his pack with several of his regulars sidelined with injury, but also in an attempt to blood some youngsters ahead of June’s inter-island tournament in Anglesey.
Including in the selection for this week’s game with the Championship outfit’s second string are St George’s trio Lewis Bridson, Joel Ibanez and Jay Skelcher-Maxwell, Corinthians’ Luke Murray, Douglas Royal’s Jacob Crook and Castletown’s Jack Camarda.
Speaking about their inclusion, Jones said on the latest Manx Football Podcast: ’We’ve got a few players who are out injured who would be considered to be starters, so it’s an opportunity to bring a few people in and see how they get on.
’Hopefully they do really, really, really well.
’It’s also the time of year when there’s a cup final onSaturday, then the same two teams play each other the Saturday after and they make up a big part of our squad.
’A lot of players have played a lot of football over the last couple of years and this is a really important game for us.
’We’ve also got the island games coming up so we need to give people minutes and we need to see who are the ones at this moment in time that are in the best possible place to represent the Isle of Man at the tournaments we’ve got coming up.’
Brentford B will provide tough opposition. The Bees’ reserves don’t play in a league, but are regularly in action against under-23 and u21 teams from clubs across Europe and beyond.
In the last month Lars Friis’s side has played Genoa, Nice and New York City.
The Brentford squad is made up of a number of age-group internationals from the likes of Finland, Latvia and Denmark.
Several were in action during the recent international break.
Kick-off is 7pm and tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.
They can be bought in advance from the FA offices in the lead up to the game.
