The final four in the Friends Provident International FA Cup go head-to-head in the competition’s semi-finals this Saturday.
The draw gods have consipred to produce two intriguing-looking last-four ties at Ballafletcher and Douglas Road.
At the former venue, current Premier League leaders Corinthians host cup holders St George’s.
The pair have yet to play in the league this season with both of their scheduled games postponed. They did, however, meet in the campaign curtain-raiser, the Eric Fletcher Charity Shield, the Whites winning 4-3.
St George’s were given a walkover in their quarter-final tie with Braddan last week, with the Swans unable to raise a side.
Indeed, Geordies’ last game was a month ago when they beat old rivals Peel 3-1 at Glencrutchery Road.
Corinthians, therefore, may just have the edge on match sharpness with testing games against Rushen, St Mary’s and DHSOB in recent weeks.
Both teams will be eager to lay down a marker ahead of the season’s final dash for silverware, meaning this one should be a cup cracker.
The other tie out west between Peel and near neighbours St John’s should be no shrinking violet either.
Like with the other semi-final, this winter’s rafts of postponements has meant that these two also haven’t met in anger this term.
They were meant to meet in the league on the weekend just gone, but water-logging at Mullen-e-Cloie scuppered that plan.
The Johnners are upwardly mobile under former Peel manager Rick Holden and would relish knocking out their opponents who will start the match as marginal favourites.
Steve Falconer’s hosts, however, have made it to the last two FA Cup finals, winning in 2016, and home advantage should see them through to Easter Saturday’s final at the Bowl.
l There’s four rearranged games in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.
Douglas Royal face Douglas Athletic in the pick of the games with the former still at risk of relegation. Athletic’s performances have been patchy of late and they may cough up some points for fourth-bottom Royal.
