After a challenging 2016-17, things seem to be looking up for Peel ahead of the new Canada Life Premier League campaign.

The westerners should be back on their Douglas Road pitch in October after problems with the contaminated sand used to treat the surface meant a season playing at Colby’s Station Fields ground.

On the playing side, things also seem to be looking up for the Sunset City side after an encouraging summer.

After a season off to concentrate on representing the Isle of Man at mountain biking at June’s Island Games, Lee Gale has returned to the westerners’ ranks full time.

Peel badly missed the goal-scoring winger last campaign as they finished fifth 25 points behind champions St George’s.

With Golden Boot winner Ashley Webster having emigrated to Australia in April, manager Steve Falconer has brought in ex-Ayre United striker Shaun Kelly from former club Laxey to help fill the void.

Kelly turned out for Peel last summer, before electing to sign for Laxey after leaving the Tangerines. The imposing targetman impressed for the Miners over the opening couple of months of the season before leaving the island to go travelling in the Far East.

Also making the switch from Glen Road to the west is ball-playing centre-back Jonathan Shields.

The pair aren’t the only departures from Glen Road, with Shields’s fellow defender Tom Smith making the switch to Corinthians.

Joining Paul Callow’s squad, however, is Isle of Man FA under-18 goalkeeper Tom Moffatt who makes the switch from Ramsey.

In JCK Division Two, Castletown have re-signed midfielder-come-attacker Tommy Doherty from Rushen.

He follows Ross Mulligan who made the move back to the Stadium from Croit Lowey earlier in the transfer window.

Fellow promotion contenders Foxdale have snapped up Niall Quayle and Stephen Oliver from Marown, while Kieran Krypner returns to Malew after a spell at Braddan.

The transfer window shuts at midday on September 2, although players are allowed to move clubs before December 31 if both sides agree.
