Alex McQuarrie has been named as the Canada Life Premier League player of the month for November.

The Marown defender has been in excellent form for the Crosby outfit in recent weeks, helping Dave Brew’s men get some important points on the board in the top flight of Manx football.

After a tough start to the 2021-22 season, Marown won three of their four games during November to push themselves six points clear of bottom-of-the-table RYCOB.

The Memorial Playing Fields side kickstarted that run with a fine 3-2 win away at Peel before easing past Youthie 3-0 on home soil.

Their third win arrived at Garey Mooar when Marown got the better of Union Mills to move onto 10 points overall and put them in a strong position to avoid relegation.

As such, McQuarrie impressed Eric Clague’s player ratings panel to the tune of 8.5 points, half a mark ahead of the next best player during the month, Ciaran McNulty.

The St George’s striker has enjoyed a stellar return to form for the Glencrutchery Road outfit this season, forging a ruthless partnership up front with Steven Priestnal and punishing defences across the island.

After helping Geordies beat Laxey at Glen Road at the start of the month, McNulty grabbed a goal to help see off Ramsey at Ballacloan before scoring twice as the Saints saw off the challenge of Douglas Royal at Ballafletcher.

Just behind him in the monthly standings is Ayre United’s Jamie Callister and McNulty’s St George’s team-mate Alex Harrison both on seven points.

The latter man also scored twice in that match against Royal as he continues his comeback from a serious long-term injury, as well as grabbing another goal in the aforementioned win over Laxey.

Callister has been in fine fettle throughout the campaign for the Tangerines, producing a string of excellent performances in the heart of the northerners’ defence as the Andreas outfit maintained their title charge with three wins out of three.

After helping to blunt Peel’s attack in a 2-1 success for Ayre at home, Callister grabbed a goal during his side’s 4-0 derby win at RYCOB before going one better by scoring a brace for Tangerines in a 4-3 win over Union Mills.

Rounding off the top placing for the month are three players all on six points, namely Marown’s Nathan Draper, DHSOB’s Drew Ward and Peel’s Tom Wood.

Claiming the young player of the month award for November - and making it successive monthly awards - is Douglas Royal’s talented midfielder Kyle Watson.
