With the first round of this season’s FPI FA Cup taking centre stage this weekend, there’s a mixed bag of league and cup action on Saturday.

There is only one game scheduled to take place in the Canada Life Premier League but it promises to be an intriguing contest between DHSOB and Rushen United. In a quirk of fate, the two sides only met recently when Rushen triumphed 4-1 at Croit Lowey thanks to a strong second-half performance, despite Old Boys impressing in the first half.

Wayne Kennedy’s DHSOB were made to pay for several missed chances in that match and therefore they will be hoping to put that right at Blackberry Lane this time around. The visiting Spaniards will start the day as favourites but, with Old Boys having a number of games in hand over the rest of the division, they will know that a win here could be the catalyst for a good end to the season.

Another interesting game could be on the cards at the Nivison Stadium where Onchan host Marown in the GH Corlett Woods Cup at 1.45pm. These two teams are among the form sides in the second division, so a close game could be in store.

Elsewhere, there are three games set to go ahead in JCK Division Two, with the match of the day arguably at Garey Mooar where Union Mills take on Foxdale.

Fresh from their cup win over Gymns, Douglas and District will be hoping to make life difficult for Malew while in a repeat of last week, Governor’s Athletic and Michael United go head-to-head at Bemahague.

Last Saturday, Michael came from 4-1 down and with only 10 players to stage a stunning comeback to 5-5 before triumphing in an epic penalty shootout, so another close contest could be on the cards.
