Nine of the latest Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week make their seasonal debut after impressing in Saturday’s six top-flight games.
DHSOB goalkeeper Tony Harris is among those making their 2017-18 bow in the hypothetical XI.
The former St George’s and Pulrose custodian helped Old Boys boost their Cu-Plas Railway Cup hopes with a shock 0-2 win at Corinthians.
In doing so they became the first side to shut-out the league-leading Whites this season.
Harris’s Old Boys team-mate Tommy Miller also impressed in the Blackberry Lane’s fourth victory of the campaign slotting into the TotW’s three-man backline.
Miller is joined at the back by Rushen’s Alex Maitland and Geordies stalwart Sean Quaye.
Maitland, who racks up his second TotW appearance of the term, was Man of the Match as the Spaniards maintained their bid for Railway Cup football with a 0-3 win at Braddan.
St George’s may have won their encounter at Peel 2-5, but the result wasn’t as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.
Quaye was like a magnet for the ball in the second half when Peel looked like they may turn pressure into a leveller, clearing his lines on numerous occasions.
The Geordies centre-back’s team-mate Sam Caine lines up in a busy looking five-man midfield.
Caine won a penalty and used his pace and direct running on the counter to pose problems of the Peel back four all game.
Slotting in alongside Caine are a quartet of players that bagged braces in their games.
Lee Ford scored twice as his Douglas Athletic side romped to a 0-7 win at Ramsey.
Also troubling the scorers at the weekend were Karl Clark (St Mary’s) and Gavin Gawne (Douglas Royal), both at the double as their two sides battled to a 3-3 draw at Ballafletcher.
Central-defender Clark shone in the unusual position of midfield, while the fleet-footed Gawne netted a brace to secure only Royal’s second point of the season.
Completing the TotW’s midfield selection is St John’s Kevin Shimmel who impressed as the Saints demolished Colby 9-0 at the Station Fields Ground.
Man of the Match in that encounter, and grabbing this week’s Player of the Day acolade, is Harry Rothwell who netted a hat-trick as Colby were put to the sword.
Joining him in the attacking third is Old Boys striker Darren Hudgeon who was one of the Blackberry Lane outfit’s star turns as they scored a fine win at Corinthians.
Scooping the Referee of the Week honours is John McCallum who had a fine game in the middle as St George’s triumphed at Peel.
